The end

I have told you many things about the use of advertisements and about certain forms of advertisement.
So now you know a few ways how advertisement can be used.
But there are many more forms of advertisements and many different uses of advertisement.
In my previous blogs I gave you a few ways how advertising can be used (by television, radio, magazines etc.)

This is my final blog, so I won't explain another form of advertising.
In this blog I want to ask you to send me a message in which you say what advertisement is according to you.

And if you were a company or a brand, how would you advertise yourself?

I will also answer these questions myself.
Advertisement according to me is a way to make your brand or company well known by the customers. And with 'well known' I mean introducing your product in a way that the customers experience the positive side of your company or brand.Basically: creating a positive image.

And if I were a company I would probably use internet and movies to promote my company.
I would use internet because it's easy to give a lot of information about your company through the internet.
Movies because a lot of people watch movies and only the people who pay good attention will know my company advertises in the movie. My company will be sort of undercover and only the people who pay enough attention will know about my company.
This will make my company more interesting.
What kind of company I would create.. I really have no idea.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my blog about the use of advertising and certain forms of advertising.
Like I've told in my first blog: I really like advertising and when I'm graduated I would like to work for an advertising-company.

I hope I've inspired you with my blog and I also hope that you have learned something from this blog.
If you have any questions or statements about my blog or about advertising, please don't be afraid to send me a message!

And before I forget: I wish you all a very happy new year! Make it a good one!

Advertisement in a movie

Advertisements excists in many forms.
I already told you about a few forms, but there is one form I haven't mentioned: advertisements in tv-series or movies.

Showing brands in movies or series is also a form of advertising. The actor/actress who uses a certain product, for example drinking Coca Cola, will trigger the audience to use that same product.

In my favourite movie called 'New Moon', which is a movie about vampires and werewolves, the lead-character wears sneakers of the brand: 'Vans'.
This movie is based on the second book of the fourfold 'Twilight' books which are written by Stephanie Mayer.
I'm a big fan of these books and this movie. For the ones who don't know this movie, watch the trailer below:

Because I'm such a big fan of this movie and the actors and actresses who play in the movie, I pay attention to what they wear in the movies and wich brands they use.
Not that I will use all of these brands myself, but I just like to see that the brands really associate with the characters.
And it caught my eye that the leading character called 'Bella' wore Vans.
On the picture above you can see shoes of the brand 'Vans'.

I did liked the shoe-brand Vans before I watched this movie, but after this movie I liked the brand even more. This is a form of advertising.
Because I saw an actress in a (according to me) very good movie I felt more attracted to the brand.
If I saw the brand in a movie which I didn't like, I wouldn't be more attracted to the brand.

Last week when I went shopping I even went looking for my own Vans. From this fact you can conclude that the movie made me want to by a brand, so the advertisement worked.

Conclusion is that also movies can help companies or brands with their advertisements. Movies who advertise for certain brand or companies will also help this brand or companie to make more profit.

I hope you liked this blog.

Christmas!

It's Christmas time! And this year we have a white Christmas here in the Netherlands.
Everywhere you look you'll see decorated trees, bright lights, snow and other kinds of decoration.
Christmas is associated with happiness, fun and visiting your family.
This association can be used by companies or brands to create or to stimulate their positive image.

Certain brands use Christmas in their advertisements. The very known Coca Cola commercial for instance is known by many people. Many people know the big Coca Cola truck with Santa on it. And for the people who don't, here it is:

If you have seen the Coca Cola Christmas commercial you must have felt the happines the brand Coca Cola tries to send out.

Today, when I was on my way to visit my family I saw a new Christmas advertisement of Coca Cola.
Now you may ask, why Coca Cola again? Well.. I don't know actually.
I just like Coca Cola and I drink it very often, and the advertisement caught my eye.

So I saw a new advertisement of Coca Cola. On this advertisement you saw Santaclause drinking Coca Cola. The poster had a red background and white letters on it.
The poster gave me a happy and pleasant feeling. I did not get thursty of the poster but it did give me a certain feeling and thought and it caught my eye.
I felt happy and pleasant and my thoughts where: what a nice Christmas poster.

I wanted to show you the poster but I couldn't find any pictures on the internet of it, and we drove to quick with the car for me to make a picture.
So unfortunately you'll have to do it with my discription.

For the Christmas feeling I will show another nice Coca Cola Christmas advertisement.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Celebrities used in commercials

In the previous blog I told you about celebrities who used a promotion strategy to promote their products.
In this blog I'll tell about celebrities who coorporated with certain brands in commercials.

Eva Longoria for instance has done a lot of commercials for Loreal Paris.

Eva Longoria is a model and also an actrice in de television serie 'Desperate Housewifes'.
But nowadays she also does commercials for Nike. One of the latest nike commercials is the one below.

This commercial is about a competition between men and women. Eva Longoria also plays in this commercial and she trows away the shoes of her husband. (as you all can see in the commercial).

Showing a celebrity with a good image can raise the profit of the product or company. When people see a celebrity who has a good image in a commercial they will be more triggered to buy the product then when they see a celebrity with a bad image.

Another example of a brand who uses celebrities in his commercials is Pepsi. Pepsi is a brand for a soda like Coca Cola.
Coca Cola is their biggest competition, that is why Pepsi does everything to present their product better dan coca cola.
If you watch the commercial below you will see serveral celebrities in it. Pink, Britney Spears, Beyonce Knowles and Enrique Iglesias.
These celebrities promote the soda of Pepsi.

Showing celebrities in your commercial who use your product always makes a better impact on the customer. When a celebrity is in a commercial, the commercial will be remembered longer by the customers.
This is also one of the reasons why brands or companies use celebrities.

What do you think is another reason to use celebrities in commercials?
Please let me know what you think!

XoXo Tessa

Advertisement by celebrities

Some brands use celebrities to promote their products.
They can choose one celebrity to play in their commercial or they can make the celebrities use their products.
These are two of ways to promote your products with the help of celebrities. Ofcourse there are also other ways.
Celebrities can also promote themselves or their products.
Britney Spears for instance has her own fragrance. In het latest video-clip she shows her fragrance.
This is also a form of promotion.

Above you see the latest video-clip of Britney Spears called 3.
At the beginning of the video-clip you can see Britney's fragrance. This is a form of promotion that Britney uses to promote her fragrance. She show’s her fans that she uses her own fragrance and that will trigger her fans to buy and wear her fragrance as well.

Also Christina Aquilera promotes her fragrances, but Christina does not do this in her video-clips.
Christina Aquilera uses a different strategy. She makes commercials about her fragrances. See the examble below.

In this commercial you see Christina en her inspiring fragrance. By showing yourself as a celebrity in a commercial you’ll get to more people. More people and specially your fans are triggered to buy your product because they see you presenting it.

Everybody can make use of any form of promotion to sell themselves or their products.
You can do this by choosing a celebrity to present your product or a celebrity can make a commercial to promote him/her-self or him/her product.
This is what Christina and Britney did. They both promoted a fragrance but they both did this with another strategy.

Which strategy do you think is better, Britney's or Christina's?
Let me know!

Advertising techniques

To create a commercial that gets to the customers you have to use certain advertising-techniques.
In this blogs I will give some of these techniques and a few exampels how brands use these techniques.

Advertising companies use certain techniques to persuade the costumers.
They have to sell the product, they have to bring the costumers to the stores and they have to send a message to the costumers.
All of this can be done by the following techniques:

- Repeat: You have to repeat your message over and over again so
that it will stick in the costumers head.
This technique makes sure your product or brand will be recognized.

- Groupspirit: By implicating that already a lot of people use your
product, you can adapt to the feeling 'wanting to belong in a certain group'.

- Testimonies: To show the superior quality of your product you can
make a use of testimonies from ordinary users, experts or both. You can also
use 'famous persons' (also known as: testimonials)for this technique.

- Action: By putting costumers under pressure to choose fast with
little time for reflection, advertisers hope to stimulate impulse purchasing.

- Connection: Advertisers try to connect certain things to there
product to make their product just as eager as these things. These things could be
landscapes, models and other comparable image-materials.

With Nike for instance you immediatly think of sports or at least something sportive.
Well this is an example of a certain "thing" you can associate with your product.

- Slogans: A slogan remembers the costumers about the offer of the
products. A famous Dutch slogan is the slogan of the radio transmitter 3FM. Their
slogan is: If you love music, you'll listen to 3FM!

- Age: by focussing your attention to a certain age, you will know
how to communicate with your target group.

- Teasing: Try to make the customer curious by making the customer
quess what kind of product your promoting. This technique uses symbols and makes
the customer really think about an advertation.
An example of a brand who used this technique is BEN. BEN was a Dutch mobile
company who made posters which only said: 'Hello, i'm BEN'.

- Buzzer: Let a Buzzer try your product. This will make people talk
about your product and this will also give you name recognition.

- Virals: This is a new technique where you send advertisements by
e-mail to your costumers.
This advertisement can be a funny movie, a game or a contest.

These were all the advertising techniques!
Let me know which you think is the best technique.

Feelings and thoughts by a Coca-Cola commercial

In the first blog about magazines I told you about the different ways to communicate with the customers.
This can be done by television, radio, internet, magazines, news-papers, outside media etc.
In this blog I will discuss a famous tv-commercial of Coca-Cola.

Mostly when you see a tv-commercial you get a certain feeling or thought after watching the commercial.
Because of that I want you all to watch the commercial below, after that I want you to think about the feelings and thoughts you got by watching it.
I would like you to post these thoughts and/or feelings in a reaction on this blog.

About the commercial
As you all know, this commercial is from the brand Coca Cola. The commercial is about discovering the inner workings of a vending machine with a twist. Once you've thrown a quarter in the machine you will go on a magical journey where imaginary creatures and mechanical wonders work together to fill your Coca Cola bottle with happiness.
Wieden and Kennedy is an independent advertising agency whose award-winning has helped build some of the strongest global brands, including Nike, Coca Cola, Honda and Starbucks.

Why this commercial?
I chose this commercial because I like to drink Coca-Cola. I also like these extraordinary commercials. They are very creative and fun to watch.
There must be a lot of thinking and deliberating before you can make a commercial like this.
In the future I would like to work with an advertisement agency. I'm very creative myself so I would like to use my creativity to help brands with making plans for their commercials.

Please, do not forget to write down your thoughts and/or feelings about the commercial in a message!

Magazines part 3

As promiced I'm going to tell you about the two brands who use magazines for their marketing communication.

One example of a brand who uses magazines for marketing communication is Guess.

Guess is a brand that sells watches, fragrances, denim, clothes, handbags, belts, shoes and wallets.
(for more about the Guess products visit: www.guess.com)
The picture above is an adverisement from the magazine 'Glamour'. Glamour is a magazine for women which advertises for a lot of brands.

The whole page in the magazine 'Glamour' is filled with this advertisement so it's hard for the customer to miss this advertisment of Guess.
The advertisement shows the name of the brand and one of the products the brand tries to sell. As you can see, the picture above tries to sell a watch.

Coca cola is also a brand that has used magazines for their marketing communication. In 1950 Coca Cola was on the cover of the magazine 'Time'. Time is a weeklie news magazine.
Coca cola has also coorperated with the magazine 'Glam*it'. Together they have developed a concept of miniature magazines on bottles. Coca Cola Belgium would be the first to apply this concept.

In my opinion the use of magazines for marketing communication is a good way to get through to your customers.
People buy magazines out of interest for the subjects it includes. In a women magazine it won't be irritating to see an advertisement of Guess for example, so you as a customer will be watching that advertisment. This could also make the customers buy something from Guess or it makes the customers tell friends about that brand.
And with Coca cola I have the same opinion. It is a very spectacular concept to make magazines on a bottle. This will make people talk and that will be a form of advertisement for coca cola.

So in my opinion brands should make more use of magazines because we as customers can skipp the advertisements whenever we want to. This is not the case with television commercials where you have to wait for your programme to start again after a 5-minute-break.

Next time I'll discuss other parts of advertisement so please visit every now and then to see what I've posted!

Magazines part 2

In my third blog I told you about the different kinds of magazines we have in the Netherlands.
Now I will give you the advantages and the disadvantages of using magazines for your marketing communication. In the next blog I will tell you something about a few brands who used this kind of advertisement, and final I'll give my opinion about the use of magazines for advertisments.

Marketing communication with magazines can provide a few advantages, which are:
- you can get to a specific target group, by making a magazine about interesting subjects.
- the quality of the use of magazines has a high and positive reputation
- magazines have a long lifespan
- besides advertisements in magazines there are also possibilities for inserts.
(inserts are small brochures in a magazine)

The disadvantages of the use of magazines for advertisements are:
- Magazines have long delivery period. It takes long to get the magazine to the customers.
- In some magazines the advertisements of brands or companies are placed in small squares (also known as ad-banking). This makes it easier for the customers to skip the advertisements.
- Most of the time it takes long to get to the target group. The magazine first has to get known and it has to be fun to read for the customers.

By using magazines for your marketing communication you have to choose between two points. Eighter you'll make a whole new magazine or you'll post an advertisement in a magazine.
Before you can make this choice you have to know the advantages and the disadvantages of using magazine.

Magazines

Companies who use advertisement in their marketing-communication-mix can choose between television, radio, internet, magazines, news-papers and outside media.
There are a few factors who are important with this choice. As a company you have to send a communication message. Timing and budget are the 2 most important factors you have to take into account by choosing your form of advertising.

In this blog I'll talk about the different kinds of magazines who can be used for advertisements. In the next blog I will give the advantages and the disadvantages about the use of a magazine for advertising. I will also discuss a few companies who use this kind of advertising and I will give my opinion.

In the Netherlands there are a lot of different kinds of magazines. You can place each magazine in a certain category.
These categories are:
- Weeklies
- Public magazines (magazines for men or for women for example)
- Broadcasting magazines
- Relation magazines (free magazines in supermarkets for example)

Weeklies
Weeklies are sort of magazines who are turned to the most intellectual part of the society.
It contains information articles about certain parts of the society and it contains opninion forming statements.

Public magazines
Public magazines are specially made for a target group, for instant women.
In can contain many subjects. The subject depends on the target group of the magazine.
A few examples of this kind of magazines are Elle and Cosmopolitan.

Broadcasting magazines
Broadcasting magazines are magazines for broadcasting associations in the Netherlands. Zoetermeer for example, is a small city in the Netherlands, and every resident in Zoetermeer recieves a magazine once a week about activities and happenings in their city.

Relation magazines
Relation magazines are magazines from stores, supermarkets etc. In the Netherlands we have a supermarket called 'Albert Heijn'. They give away free magazines which includes recipies and sales in the supermarket.
These kind of magazines have something to do with the store where they are given away, that's why it's called: Relation magazine.

These were the different kind of magazines we have in the Netherlands.
Read the next blog, that blog will continue where I now have finished.

What is advertisment?

Advertisement is one of the most important forms of communication. Companies or organisations can communicate with the customers by making advertisements. Every day customers are faced with a lot of advertising messages, so everyone has differend opinions about advertisments. Some people say that advertisment is crucial, others say it's a waist of time and energy.

What is your opinion about advertising? (let me know!)

In dutch advertising has a lot of different meanings. It can refere to temporary low prices, a campaign to make a new company familiar, to creating an image for a special product or campany or it can refere to articles in news papers for example.

In short: advertising is certain information about brands, organisations/companies or ideas with the main goal to influence the knowledge, attitude or behaviour of the target group in a positive way.

Advertising is also used to make more profit out of the customers. Advertisments bring the customers to the stores and most of the time it also makes the customers spend money. By using advertising you can give your brand, company or products a certain image. An image tells something about the kwality, reliability and the service of a brand, company or product. To make more effort out of customers you have to create a positive image. This image can be created by the experience that people have using your producs or services. It can also be created by making commercials, by placing articles in news papers or magazines or even by telling a story about your brand, product or company on the radio.

Above is an example of a commercial.

So you see there are a lot of different kinds of advertisements and a lot of different meanings of the word. In my next 3 blogs I'll tell you something more about a certain form of advertisement. I'll also give examples of companies who use that kind of advertising. And final I'll will give my meaning about the use of the advertisement by the companies.

Thanks for reading, and don't forget to response on the question I asked ealier!
